Installation Guides

Choose the guide that matches the mounting option you selected with your order.

Double-sided mounting tape

Best for flat surfaces. The cleaner and drier the wall, the stronger the bond.

Before you start

  • Smooth walls (painted, render, timber, metal): wipe the area with isopropyl alcohol on a clean cloth. Don't use methylated spirits, as it can leave a residue that weakens the tape.
  • Brick, render and other porous walls: these hold fine dust. Scrub the area with clean water and let it dry completely. In cool weather this can take until the next day.
  • Freshly painted walls: wait at least 4 weeks after painting before using tape, otherwise the sign may not stay on.

You will need

  • Isopropyl alcohol and a clean cloth (or water and a brush for porous walls)
  • Masking tape and a spirit level

Steps

IPA

1Clean the spot. Smooth wall: wipe with isopropyl alcohol. Brick or render: scrub with water and let it dry completely.

MASKING TAPE GUIDE LINE

2Stick a strip of masking tape on the wall as a straight guide line. Check it with a spirit level.

FACE DOWN ON SOMETHING SOFT

3Lay the sign face-down on something soft and peel the backing off the tape. Don't touch the sticky side.

4Rest the sign on your guide line and place it on the wall. Get it right first go, as the tape won't stick as well a second time.

5 sec

5Press hard with the heel of your hand over every piece of tape, at least 5 seconds each. Then peel off the guide tape.

Hidden stand-offs

Best for brick, render and timber. Your sign sits off the wall with no fixings on show.

Your sign arrives with small studs already fixed to the back. You screw matching sockets into the wall, and the studs click into them.

You will need

  • A drill (a hammer drill for brick or masonry) with a 5mm bit: masonry bit for brick or render, standard bit for timber
  • Wall plugs and screws (available as an option when you order)
  • A Phillips head screwdriver, spirit level and marker pen
  • A large sheet of paper or cardboard, and some tape

Steps

TOP

1Put the sign face-up on a big sheet of paper, trace around it and write TOP at the top.

PRESS DOWN

2Press down on the sign. The pointed studs on the back mark the paper. Circle each mark with a pen.

TOP

3Tape the template to the wall where you want the sign and check it is level.

5mm

4Drill a 5mm hole through each mark. On timber you can screw straight in and skip the plugs.

TAP EACH PLUG IN UNTIL FLUSH

5On brick or render, clear the dust out and tap a wall plug into each hole until it sits flush.

FIRM, BUT DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN

6Screw a socket into each hole. Make it firm, but don't over-tighten or the socket can be damaged.

CLICK!SIDE VIEW

7Line the studs on the back of the sign up with the sockets and push. You should feel each one click. Check every one.

Aluminium stand-offs

Best for brick, render and timber. A modern look with visible metal caps.

You will need

  • A drill with a 5mm bit: masonry bit for brick or render, standard bit for timber
  • Wall plugs and screws (available as an option when you order)
  • A pencil, spirit level and screwdriver

Steps

1Hold the sign in position, use a spirit level, and mark through each mounting hole onto the wall with a pencil.

5mm

2Drill a 5mm hole at each mark.

TAP EACH PLUG IN UNTIL FLUSH

3On brick or render, clear the dust out and tap a wall plug into each hole until it sits flush.

SCREW THE BASES INTO THE WALL

4Screw a stand-off base into each hole.

CAPS ON BY HAND, DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN

5Place the sign over the bases and screw the caps on by hand. Don't over-tighten, as this can crack the acrylic.
